About Us

Edward T. VerHalen, Sr., founded VerHalen, Inc. in 1911 as a sole proprietorship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Though the Company was owned and operated by Mr. VerHalen, he was eventually assisted by Edward S. VerHalen, Jr., and Harvey M. Nelson, who joined the Company in 1936 and 1937, respectively. Upon Mr. VerHalen’s death in 1950, Edward Jr. and Harvey were elected to take over the corporation and conduct business as equal partners.

VerHalen grew under the guidance of Mr. VerHalen, Jr. and Mr. Nelson, adding additional sales offices in Madison and Green Bay. In 1968, William H. Calawerts joined VerHalen as Sales Manager of the Green Bay operation. Bill and his wife, Norma, purchased VerHalen in 1980. Mr. Calawerts moved the Company headquarters to Green Bay where it remains today. Under the leadership of Bill Calawerts, the Company continued to grow and had offices in Green Bay, Madison, Brookfield, Appleton, and Greenfield.

In 1997, management of VerHalen was assumed by Bill’s sons, Chris, John, and Mike. In 2003, Chris left the Company to pursue other interests. In 2015, John and Mike made a business decision to brand the divisions independent of one another. Thus creating VerHalen Construction and Pella Windows and Doors Wisconsin. John oversaw the day-to-day management of Pella Windows & Doors of Wisconsin while Mike oversaw VerHalen Construction. Pella Windows & Doors of Wisconsin now has showroom locations in Green Bay, Brookfield and Madison.

We are extremely proud at VerHalen of our many years of serving the construction industry with the highest quality building products. It has been our pleasure to represent Pella Windows and Doors since 1927. We also represent other well-known manufacturers such as Armstrong World Industries, Celotex, USG, Chicago Metallic, Norwin, and United States Gypsum Company.

Pella Windows & Doors of Wisconsin sells products such as windows, sliding glass doors, and entrance doors. Our primary customers include residential homebuilders, remodelers, homeowners, general contractors, construction managers, architects, building owners, and building managers. The products offered by our Construction Division include acoustical and specialty ceiling systems, and steel stud drywall.

Today, John Calawerts owns VerHalen, Inc. and is President, overseeing the management of the Company. Our VerHalen values are Doing the Right Thing and One Team – One Goal.
